General Information
DIRECTIONS
Location
The Center for the Physics of Living Cells (CPLC) is located in the
Loomis Laboratory of Physics on the Urbana-Champaign campus of the University
of Illinois. Loomis is at the northeast corner of the intersection of Goodwin
Avenue and Green Street at 1110 West Green Street, Urbana, Illinois.
The Physics Department has a
page of directions, with maps, driving directions, and parking information,
including getting to Urbana, getting around town, and navigating the campus.
Parking
Metered parking is available on most streets. Reserved parking may be available in the lot adjacent to the southeast entrance of
Loomis, upon request. The Illini Union and the Hampton Inn are just a short walk away, so hotel guests may prefer to leave their cars there.
COMPUTER ACCESS
Walk up computers
The
Illini Union (two blocks west of Loomis) and
Grainger Engineering Library (one block northwest of Loomis) have walk up
computers available on the Illinois network. The
Physics and Astronomy Library in 204 Loomis has
limited-time use computers available, also.
Guest Accounts
To login to the campus network with your computer and to use some University resources, you will need a
guest
account. Usually the CPLC staff can have an account ready for you when you arrive, however, if necessary, any
Illinois
faculty, staff member, or student can create a limited number of guest accounts.
Access
Wireless is available in public places in Loomis, MRL and ESB. Plug in access for laptops is available in the
Physics and Astronomy Library in 204 Loomis. More detailed information is available for
Loomis,
MRL,
ESB,
Illini Union and all
other campus
buildings. If you have been assigned an office, it should have network access.
Public Wireless
Only a few locations have
public wireless; they include Krannert Center for the Performing Arts (one block south of Loomis) and Willard Airport.

Physics Wiki has instructions for Illinois people who want to set up a guest account. CITES (Campus Information Technologies and Educational Services) has a
